This is a SEPARATE EVENT taking place in June 2024 and is NOT part of the Northumbria Masters Chess Congress held annually in August.

General Event Information

The EJCOA Youth Championships are organised by the English Junior Coaches and Organisers Association (CLICK HERE).

This is a national non-profit organisation, in partnership with regional junior chess organisations across England, in this case Northumbria Junior Chess Association.

The 2024 EJCOA North East Zonal will be held at:

Sections:

There are sections for: Under 8s, Under 10s, Under 12s, Under 14s, Under 16s & Under 18s.
(age as of 1 January 2024)

Each Section will be a 5-round Swiss tournament.

Time Controls:

(for all Sections)

Time control: 20 minutes for all moves, plus 10 seconds per move

Regional Final games will be ECF Rapidplay rated..

Playing Schedule:

(for all Sections)

Round 1: 12:45 pm
Round 2: 1:45 pm
Round 3: 2:45 pm
Round 4: 3:45 pm
Round 5: 4:45 pm

Finish and Prizegiving: 5:45 pm

Prizes: Trophies, medals and chess-related books.

Eligibility:

Players may enter more than one Regional Final.

Players should be ECF members (Junior Silver or above) before the tournament.

Silver membership is free (for the first year) for juniors who have not previously held ECF membership; otherwise it is £6.

Qualification for National Finals:

The top boy and top girl in each age category

will qualify for the EJCOA Youth Championships National Finals at Nottingham High School, Friday 5 July to Sunday 7 July 2024.

This will be a five round FIDE-rated standard play tournament. The time control will be 90 minutes plus 30 seconds per move.

At the National Finals there will be a variety of prizes, including cash and trophies.

Other criteria for qualification for the National Finals are:

By rating. Any player with a published current minimum ECF or FIDE standard play rating (as below) is entitled to enter the EJCOA National Youth Championships:
Under 8: 800
Under 10: 1000
Under 12: 1200
Under 14: 1400
Under 16: 1600
Under 18: 1700
Under 20: 1800

Wild Card entries. These players will be invited by the EJCOA Selection Committee, based on a combination of:
a) Performance in an EJCOA Youth Championships Regional Final;
b) Performance in other recent events.

Entry fees:

ECF Junior Silver Members or above: £15
Non-ECF Junior Silver Members or above (incl. £2.50 Pay-to-Play fee): £17.50

Your place in the tournament will be confirmed after successful receipt of the payment on our account (you will receive a confirmation email).
