General Event Information

The 2023-24 Northumberland & Durham Rapidplay Chamionships are organised by the Northumberland Chess Association (NCA).

The 2023-24 Northumberland & Durham Rapidplay Championships will be held at:

It is 12 minutes’ walk from Palmersville Metro. Free parking outside & 150m away outside Aldi.
The 355 bus from Haymarket stops 100m away, and the 63 bus from Monument stops 400m away.

Sections:

OPEN & MAJOR CHAMPIONSHIP:

6-Round Swiss tournament open to all, 20 mins & 10 seconds per move.

Prizes: 1st (the Open Champion) £100, 2nd £50, 3rd £25,

Players with Under 1800 ECF Rating: 1st (the Major Champion) £50, 2nd £25.

MINOR CHAMPIONSHIP:

6-Round Swiss tournament for players rated under 1600 or with no ECF rating, 20 mins & 10 seconds per move.

Prizes: 1st (the Minor Champion) £50, 2nd £25.

JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIP:

5-round Swiss tournament for players aged Under 18.

In each round, participants play White & Black against the same opponent, 10 minutes & 5 seconds per move. Prizes based on entries.

Time Controls:

OPEN, MAJOR & MINOR

Time control: 20 minutes for all moves, plus 10 seconds per move

JUNIOR

Time control: 10 minutes for all moves, plus 5 seconds per move
(In each round, participants play White & Black against the same opponent)

Trophies will be awarded to the highest placed players from Northumberland and Durham Chess Associations in each category.

Eligibility:

Entry to the Northumberland & Durham Rapidplay Championships is open to anyone resident in Newcastle, North Tyneside, Northumberland or County Durham, and/or members of clubs affiliated to Northumberland and Durham Chess Associations.

ECF Bronze membership or higher is recommended for all tournaments – if you are not an ECF member, an extra pay-to-play fee will be included in your entry fee.

Entry fees:

OPEN, MAJOR & MINOR TOURNAMENTS: Adults: £15, Under 18s £10.
Add £10 Pay-to-Play Fee if not an ECF Bronze member or above.

JUNIOR TOURNAMENT: £10.
Add £2.50 Pay-to-Play Fee if not ECF member.

TOURNAMENT REGULATIONS:

1. RATINGS: All tournaments will be ECF-rated. May 2024 ECF Rapidplay (first) and Standard Play ratings (second) will be used to assign players to tournaments.

2. PRIZES: Prizes in all sections may change, depending on the number of entries. Prizes will be shared by players on the same score.
