By Air: The hotel is 3.2 miles from Newcastle International Airport.

By Train: Newcastle is 3 hours from London & 1.5 hours from Edinburgh.

By Car: The hotel is 0.2 miles from the A1, and 4.4 miles from Newcastle City Centre.

By Metro: The hotel is 10 minutes’ walk from Kingston Park on the Green Line.

Time Controls

MASTERS, MAJOR & CHALLENGERS: All moves in 90 minutes, plus 30 seconds per move.

JUNIOR RAPIDPLAY: All moves in 15 minutes, plus 10 seconds per move

Regulations for FIDE-rated events

  1. Masters, Challengers & Major require a)
    Gold/Platinum ECF membership b)
    membership of another national
    federation or c) a £10.50 Pay-to-Play fee.
  2. Challengers/Major players must be under
    both FIDE & ECF rating/grade limits.
    FIDE ratings are used for pairings &
    prizes. Non-FIDE rated players’ grades
    will be converted (7.5 x ECF + 700).
  3. Players without a FIDE ID code (the 6-digit number for each player on the FIDE website) will be assigned one by their national chess federation. In the case of English-affiliated players, the ECF will arrange this automatically. If a player is registered with another national federation, they should contact the federation and get a FIDE ID code before entering the tournament.
  4. There is a £10 late entry fee after Aug. 13.
  5. Players normally win only one prize. Prizes
    may be adjusted depending on entries.
  6. Ages are as of 23/8/19.
  7. Up to 3 half-point byes may be requested
    in advance for Rounds 1-8.
  8. Default time is 30 minutes.
